Dear 6th Grade Science Students and Families,
My wife will be delivering our daughter tomorrow! I will be out on paternity leave from Friday October 12th until Monday, November 5th. I want to let you know some details related to my leave and provide you with some upcoming dates.
My substitute teacher will be Ms. Quashie, who has worked at the Edwards Middle School in Charlestown and the Sarah Greenwood Elementary School and is joining TechBoston Academy for the duration of the year. As I do, Ms. Quashie holds high expectations for TechBoston Academy’s young scholars, and she will not accept anything less than your scholar’s best effort.
The work Ms. Quashie and I have selected for students while I am out will be crucial for furthering our studies when I return and will be dropped off with me so that I can grade the work. Classwork assignments ranging from reading comprehension assignments, to writing assignments, to artistic representations of scientific understanding will be supported by the textbook and other materials in the classroom. Homework will be given and collected daily! These grades will count towards students’ term 1 grade and, in fact, represent an excellent opportunity for students to improve their grades!
As I write this letter, Boston Public Schools is planning to publish term 1 progress reports on Thursday, October 11th. These progress reports are intended to be a warning for students whose work and/or effort needs to improve. Working with the city’s new grading system, I have tried to produce as accurate a progress report as possible. If you have any questions or concerns regarding the progress reports, please don’t hesitate to email me your question. While I am not whether I will be able to reply during my leave, I will endeavor to reply as soon as possible.
Here are some upcoming dates:
Tuesday, October 16: Family Night (4:30 – 6:30), I will not be able to attend, but families will be able to pick-up logins for the online grade checking system.
Monday, November 5: Mr. Witsil Returns.
Friday, November 9: Grades Close (This means that assignments given out beginning 11/12/12 will count towards term 2.)
Tuesday, November 20: Term 1 grades submitted and final.
Again, please let me know if you have any questions. My email address is [email protected].
Sincerely,
Dan Witsil
