School Year Opportunities at TechBoston Academy
- Sports! TechBoston Academy's sports teams - the Dorchester Bears - have been extremely successful over the last several years. 6th Graders are welcome to join most of the sports teams. In fact, one of our young ladies last year was on both the Basketball and Softball teams. Can you imagine, she also made honor roll!
- Go to teacher's office hours. Every week, each teacher stays after school from 2:30 to 3:30 to provide extra help for students. Take advantage of these opportunities. As soon as the new late bus scheduled comes out, I will post that schedule here.
- Join a club! Club Opportunities Include:
--> Science Club with Mr. Witsil
--> Chess Club with Mr. Librot
--> Theater opportunities with Ms. Leonard
--> More clubs as the official list gets posted!
- Join the Dorchester Leadership Academy - 6th graders only! Email Ryan Robert the director of Dorchester Leadership Academy for more information.
- Keep an eye out for applications to the Urban Scholars program from UMASS Boston. This is a phenomenal program which will provide you with opportunities for years to come and excellent training for college - plus fun field trips! Check out the program by clicking this link!
- Join the Debate Team! Ms. Renzi and Ms. Smith coach the middle school debate team and TechBoston's Debaters took home a pile of trophies at meets throughout the school year. Talk to some of last year's debaters about how awesome their experience was!
Summer Opportunities
Boston is an amazing place to be a student because of the wealth of colleges, universities, and technology based companies providing opportunities for young folks to develop their skills in fun, innovative ways. Participating in summer programs is a great way to keep your skills sharp for 7th grade, meet new friends, develop new interests, go new places, and learn cool new things!

- Urban Scholars - Awesome Summer Program out of UMASS Boston.
- MIT Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math Camp. This is probably the BEST program available in the summer for middle school students in Boston. I have had two students attend the program, and they said it was absolutely amazing!
- Artists for Humanity Saturday Program. Free for the first 50 students! This program also has a summer long program for kids 14 and older.
- Learn how to grow your own food with The Food Project summer youth program! *If you're 14, you can also participate during the school year. The Food Project has a roof-top gardening operation in the Dudley Street neighborhood.
- Check out the Boston Public Schools' "Summer Stuff" publication from 2012. Many of the same programs will run next year!
- Check out the Harris Foundation Summer Camp. Ms. Jackson's niece attended the camp several years ago and had a great experience. This is a sleep-away camp where 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students live on a college campus for 2 weeks. Application deadline is May 1st. The nearest camp this year appears to be at Worcester Polytechnic Institute, but previous years' camps have included Northeastern University. Check it out! (FREE!)
